my approach
Shan Studio is all about strengthening, mobility, and functional movement in a safe and intimate therapeutic setting, backed by Pilates and yoga training, as well as a deep understanding of Chinese medicine. Together, we will embark on an authentic journey that not only helps you reach your goals, but will heal you in unexpected ways.

My time in fitness has taught me that if you don’t feel strong enough or you’re in pain, it’s because you’re a victim … but we have to find the murderer. Something is causing you to feel this way, and I want to help you figure out what. Your body is everything, and when it’s out of tune, you cannot hope to feel your best.

Moreover, it is a complete package, more than the sum of its parts; you cannot section it off. You might tell me you have back pain, but if I see your shoulders hunching forward, I know where I need to start.
Mobility is about more than range of movement. Strength is about more than power. With both, my goal is to build proprioception — awareness of your body’s place in space — while empowering you with knowledge.
about me
Growing up in Taiwan, Chinese medicine was second nature to me. Now, living in the United States, I see the ways it can benefit people from all backgrounds and bodies, and I’m grateful I can bring this understanding to people in my studio. I combine my classes — which focus on Pilates, yoga, and breathwork — with this background, creating a unique experience that helps my clients heal and strengthen themselves, both inside and outside my classroom.

Professionally trained in both Pilates and yoga, I continue to engage in teacher trainings so that I’m always growing. The studio I use for my clients is the same one that I train in myself, so I understand the mechanics of each machine and exercise as well as I understand my own breath. I’m also a black belt in taekwondo, and I bring this training to my business practice, whether or not my clients engage in martial arts themselves.

Today I live in Lake Oswego, OR, with my husband, two children, and two dachshunds, Oolong and Taro. (You’ll see them in the studio, don’t worry.) I show my love to family and friends with food, so more often than not, you’ll find me in the kitchen.
